12-Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Notes verse 12 — This verse reminds those who confess Jesus as Lord that God the Father no longer sees you as a sinner, but He looks upon you as one who is holy and loved beyond measure. Just as we choose to say yes to God, He first chose us as His own. Now that we are His and He looks at us through the eyes of Jesus. We are seen with great love and perfection. Being holy is what God desires of His children. To fully represent what God has as our standard of being chosen by Him to be holy and dearly loved, then we must clothe ourselves with five interconnecting things that help us to be a better person and more like Christ. First, compassion – : sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it. Second, kindness- : having or showing a gentle nature and a desire to help others : wanting and liking to do good things and to bring happiness to others. Third, humility – : the quality or state of not thinking you are better than other people : the quality or state of being humble. Fourth, gentleness – : having or showing a kind and quiet nature : not harsh or violent : not hard or forceful : not strong or harsh in effect or quality. Fifth, patience – : able to remain calm and not become annoyed when waiting for a long time or when dealing with problems or difficult people : done in a careful way over a long period of time without hurrying. Each one of the five qualities that we are commanded to clothe ourselves in are intertwine to help each quality better itself.
