The Obedience of Joy

Welcome back to our Fruit of Spirit Series.

Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Day-3/4/14
The Obedience of Joy:

Psalms 119:111 (NIV)
111 Your statutes are my heritage forever;
they are the joy of my heart.

Proverbs 10:28 (NIV)
28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.

Psalms 119:14 (NIV)
14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches

Priorities…What’s Really Important?

Welcome Back Readers!! I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving and spent some time thanking God for all He is and all He does!

How many of you went to those Black Friday (well, really Thursday) sales? Did you buy a newspaper to look at all the sales ads? Did you spend time comparing prices, writing out what you wanted to get, looked at maps, and planned our your shopping adventure? I admit I ventured out and went to Wal-Mart with my sweet 6 year old son. But, all this planning got me thinking….What if we, as Christians, would get that excited about going to church and sharing the gospel with others? Do we read our Bible and plan out our day according to God’s Holy Word, the Bible? Or those times, you miss Sunday School because you weren’t prepared? Or missed church because just wanted to sleep in?

Mr. Webster defines a priority as a noun meaning “a thing that is regarded as more important than another.” During our shopping trip our priority was to get the stuff we wanted and make it out alive! 🙂 The Bible teaches us that we must focus on things NOT of this world, but fix our eyes on Jesus!! Hebrews 12:2 reminds us, “keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.”

Romans 12:2 reminds us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Please take some time to reflect on the Love of Christ and remember the “Black Friday” He endured on the cross for our sins. Remember Jesus is the Reason for the Season!!!

Be a blessing,
~M

What Do Christians Need?

What Do Christians Need?

Colossians 1:3-14 (NIV)
3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints— 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel 6 that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God’s grace in all its truth. 7 You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, 8 and who also told us of your love in the Spirit. 9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

In studying this simple passage we see a variety of things that Christians need.
• We need the Lord as our Savior. (Vs.3)
• We need Prayer, so we can communicate with God. (Vs.3)

A reminder for us all… What will you do today to encourage someone’s faith? …May God Bless you as you Serve Him.

Living God’s Way

Ephesians 5:15-21

“15 Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise— 16 making the most of the time, because the days are evil. 17 So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled by the Spirit: 19 speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music from your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of Christ.”

This passage gives us 7 ways to Live:

* Gods Word tells us to pay careful attention to how we live…Ephesians 5:15

* We are told to make the most of our time here on earth…Ephesians 5:16

* We are to seek Gods Will for our lives…Ephesians 5:17

* We should be concerned with what our bodies, minds, and eyes take in on a daily basis…Ephesians 5:18

* We need to be careful how we speak to each other…Ephesians. 5:19

* We should thank God for everything all the time…Ephesians 5:20

* We must surrender to God completely…Ephesians 5:21

Love Leads To Obedience And Insight

Love Leads To Obedience And Insight

John 14:23-26 (NIV)

23-Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
24-Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
25-“All this I have spoken while still with you.
26-But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
John 14:23-26 (NIV)

Vs. 23 —
If we truly love God then as an act of expressing that love we will obey His Word. We must show God that we love Him. Anyone can say the words I love you. It is only by expressing the words I love you with action that we show God our love for Him. Question is, do you really love God? God desires to take up residency within all who truly love Him.

Vs. 24 —
We can say I love you Lord all day long, but unless you show that love. Your words are meaningless. Jesus did not water down the message of love. He spoke straight forward to the people. If there is no love for God then there will be no obedience to Him. Jesus spoke only what God The Father instructed Him to speak. He spoke nothing more and nothing less than what His Father desired from Him. Jesus gave all credit to His Father who is God The Father. He even goes as far as saying that it was God The Father that sent Him God The Son.

Vs. 25 —
Jesus said this to His disciples so they would understand that this was all part of God The Fathers master plan.

Vs. 26 —
Jesus assures us that as He ascends to Heaven we will not be left alone. He shares with the believers that God The Father will send God The Holy Spirit to continue the work of God The Son who was and is Jesus Christ the Savior of all who Confess and Believe. What is really interesting is Jesus said this will be done In My Name the very Name of Jesus Christ. Just as Jesus taught the people about salvation, repentance, forgiveness, love, and how to live a life that is pleasing to God. So too God The Holy Spirit will dwell among us until Jesus Returns. God The Holy Spirit was sent to teach and remind us what God The Father desires for us and from us.

This simple straight forward teaching from Jesus Christ is still just as relevant today as it was on the day it was spoken. If you truly love God, then your actions will reflect your words.

Prayer —
Father I come to You this day to say Thank You For Who You Are and What You Have Done. May our words, actions, and thoughts be pleasing to You. May we no longer just say the words I love you Lord. May we live it, show it, prove it, and say it. I Love You Lord. In Jesus Name Amen.

1 Corinthians 13:8a “LOVE NEVER FAILS”

Do you criticize others?

Do you ever judge someone or criticize others? I challenge you to go all day without saying anything negative about someone else. If we, as Christians, would show love and mercy to others and not criticize them, this world would be a totally different place. Do you think you could go all week without judging someone? If you feel yourself wanting to criticize others..then say the following prayer and scriptures. Remember LOVE NEVER FAILS!!!

Help me, Lord, rise above the need to criticize others. May my own shortcomings humble me, and may I always be a source of genuine encouragement to my family and friends. AMEN!

Don’t criticize one another, brothers. He who criticizes a brother or judges his brother criticizes the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. James 4:11

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a man with understanding keeps silent. Proverbs 11:12

Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word is a gift. Ephesians 4:29

Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out. Colossians 4:6

Just how Radical are you for Christ?

Look with me at Luke 9:57-62

“As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” 59 He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” 62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

These people said that they wanted to follow God, yet their actions spoke differently. If following God was easy, then everyone would jump on the band wagon. Jesus tells them plain and simple that if they want to truly follow Him, then they need to do so with immediate obedience. If you say to God that you will follow Him wherever He wants you to go, then you better be ready for what lies ahead. According to this passage of scripture, we are to drop everything and obey immediately. Jesus also said that life would not be easy. Verse 62 tells us not to keep looking back at our old lives and desires, but to look forward and follow His path for your life. So just how Radical are you when it comes to following Christ? Do you obey Him with immediate obedience or do you say like the others, Lord just let me do this or that first and then I will follow You. God requires immediate obedience, not hey just let me think about it or pray about it for 20 years and then I’ll obey You God. If God is calling you, then please just do it. Be Radical in the world’s eyes and follow Christ with all that you are and all that you have. I pray that God will bless each of you who radically follow Him.

In Christ Service,

Pastor G
